In her master's thesis, Ilanga Mwaungulu examined through the solidarity campaign for Angela Davis the relationship between international solidarity and racism in the GDR based on the women's magazine "Für Dich" (For You). In conversation with Urmila Goel, Mwaungulu talks about her motivation for this research, her key findings and their reception. In doing so she also discusses her Black East German family history, her experiences of racism and anti-racist activism. She argues that racism in the GDR and East Germany should be understood both in its specifics and in its German continuity, and that the consequences of "East bashing" should be considered.
